What to Ask an AI Automation Consultant

How to separate the hype from the ROI.

By PacifAI · · 7 min read

The AI space is full of noise. Here is how you find the signal.

When you evaluate an automation partner, the conversation should be about your business numbers, not about model names. If they can't show you the math on ROI, walk away. That includes us. Here is what to ask anyone, including PacifAI.

Questions about money

  1. "What will this cost, in total, and what is monthly after that?" You want a clear build price and a clear ongoing price.
  2. "How will we know it paid for itself?" Ask which numbers will be measured: calls answered, hours saved, jobs booked.
  3. "What happens if you don't find anything?" A good partner has a clear answer. Ours is a money-back guarantee on the audit, with the terms in writing.

Questions about the work

  1. "Who will build it, and who will I talk to?" You want the person doing the work, not a handoff to a stranger.
  2. "Can you show me before I commit?" A working prototype of your own system tells you more than a slide deck.
  3. "What tools of mine will it connect to?" If you use scheduling, quoting or accounting software, ask how the two will work together.

Questions about risk

  1. "What can go wrong, and who is in control?" The right answer is that important actions need your approval and you can turn the system off.
  2. "What happens to my customer data?" Ask where it is stored, who can see it, and whether it is used to train anything. Get the answer in writing.
  3. "What if I want to leave?" You should be able to take your documents and your plan with you.

Red flags

  • Promises of a big percentage gain with no math behind it.
  • Talk of robots, brains and revolutions instead of your calls and your hours.
  • Pressure to sign on the first call.
  • No clear description of what you get at the end.
