Google Reviews: Local Ranking in 2026
Why asking for reviews on a schedule beats asking when you remember.
By PacifAI · · 4 min read
Your Google reviews are probably an afterthought. They don't have to be.
Reviews matter for local search. Google says on its help pages that review count and review score are part of how local results are ranked. Nobody outside Google knows the exact weight, so be wary of anyone who gives you one. What is clear is that people read reviews before they call.
The real problem is asking
Most happy customers never leave a review unless someone asks. And asking at the right moment is the hard part:
- Too early and the work isn't done.
- Too late and the customer has moved on.
- Asking by hand means it depends on who remembers.
A simple system
- Ask right after the job. The same day, while the customer is still happy.
- Make it one tap. Send the direct link to your Google review page by text.
- Send one reminder. Two days later is enough. Then stop.
- Reply to every review. Thank people by name. Respond calmly to the bad ones.
- Never pay for reviews or write your own. It breaks Google's rules and customers can tell.
Where AI helps
Steps 1 to 3 are the same every time, which makes them easy to automate. A message goes out after each completed job, and a reminder follows if there is no response. You can also use AI to draft replies, and you read each one before it goes out.
It replaces a cost you already pay: the review you would have earned if someone had remembered to ask.
Start small
